If you were one of those still un-convinced of the advantages and benefits of Ceramic bearings, well, consider these facts!
Using independent data from a client who uses SRM cranks to measure their power when racing, they upgraded their Hollowtech BB, jockey wheels and front HED tri-spoke with CeramicSpeed bearings and found they produced 15 less watts to go the same speed.
When you consider that their average power output for an hour is 300watts, that's an improvement of 5%.
And we're not saying it'll shave a minute off your time or anything like that. Just that it will take less power to propell your bike, meaning you should go faster than you did before.
More interesting facts about Ceramics is that many pro riders specify them regardless of who their wheel supplier is.
Riders like Cancellara, Sastre, the Garmin-Slipstream team, and the whole Astana squad are on them as their SRAM RED groupsets come standard with CeramicSpeed bearings, as do top end ZIPP, FastForward and Powertap SLC+ hubs.....
Question is: why aren't you?
If you are riding a 9 speed Shimano Octalink BB equipped bike, we can upgrade all but the needle bearing Dura Ace BB's, and when we upgraded a special track octalink BB for Sir Chris Hoy's La Paz kilo attempt, his response was un-printable!!
Chris Boardman talks about the "accumulation of marginal gains"....well lets say we think these gains aren't marginal, but compulsory, especially from anyone serious enough to spend their precious weekends and evenings training to go faster than they use to! Or faster than their rivals!!!
Even Etape and Sportiv riders would benefit greatly, given that they are riding for 5-7 hours, the gains are greater over a longer period as ceramics roll smoother and easier regardless of how tired you are.. they'll keep helping even when the terrain doesn't!
In the next few weeks we're going to put up some Youtube video's showing wheels and BB's spinning better than you could have ever imagined !!
Keep a look out, and remember.. ring us anytime (01494 678899) if you have any questions about whether we have bearings for your wheels, or your Italian threaded Octalink bottom bracket.
We can do them all!
